PLACES TO VISIT ANTARCTICA | GUIDE FOR TRAVEL TO ANTARCTICA

Most  kind in Antarctica seem to be the descendants of group that lived there millions of years ago. As such, they must have survived multiple glacial cycles. The species lived  the periods of extremely cold climate in isolated warmer areas, such as those with geothermal heat or areas that remained ice-free throughout the colder climate.

weakened  life of Antarctica includes species of microscopic mites such as Alaskozetes antarcticus, lice, nematodes, tardigrades, rotifers, krill and springtails. The few terrestrial vertebrates are limited to the sub-Antarctic islands.[112] The non-violent  midge Belgica antarctica, the largest purely terrestrial animal in Antarctica, reaches 6 mm (1⁄4 in) in size.[113]

Antarctic krill, which assesemble  in large schools, is the central stone species of the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, being an important food organism for whales, seals, leopard seals, fur seals, squid, icefish, and many bird species, such as penguins and albatrosses.[114] Some catagory of marine animals exist and rely, directly or indirectly, on plant life. Antarctic sea life includes penguins, blue whales, orcas, colossal squids and fur seals.[115] The Antarctic fur seal was very heavily hunted in the 18th and 19th centuries for its pelt by seal hunters from the United States and the United Kingdom.[116] Leopard seals are apex predators in the Antarctic ecosystem and migrate across the Southern Ocean in search of food.

1.South sheatland islands:
The South Shetland Islands are category of Antarctic islands with a total area of 3,687 km2 (1,424 sq mi). They lie about 120 kilometres (65 nautical miles) north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and  connecting 430 and 900 km (230 and 485 nmi) southwest of the near point of the South Orkney Islands.

2.Antarctic peninsula:

The Antarctic Peninsula, known as O'Higgins Land in Chile and Tierra de San Martín in Argentina, and originally as Graham Land in the United Kingdom and the Palmer Peninsula in the United States, is the northernmost part of mainland antarctica.

British sovereignty  is disputed by argentina. The United Kingdom claimed South Georgia in 1775 (at the time it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain), annexed the islands in 1908, and has exercised de facto  control with the exception of a brief period during 1982, when the islands were partially controlled by Argentina.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, Antarctica's significance extends far beyond its frozen shores. It is a beacon of scientific discovery, a testament to international cooperation, and a stark reminder of the Earth's vulnerability to environmental changes. As we move forward, it is crucial to continue safeguarding this unique and vital continent while using it as a platform to expand our understanding of the planet and its interconnected systems.
